Brotherly Love; City of…

June 28, 2008

So some of you know that I have spent 4 of my past 5 summers working for a summer youth missions organization called YouthWorks. Since August I have been working for them full time in Minneapolis but in the summer I am required to be on staff in one of the 78 communities that YouthWorks hosts week long service trips in. This summer I’m in Philadelphia and learning more about freedom, sweat, learning disabilities, stoop sittin, racism, urban gardening and fire hydrants. In efforts to stay connected I wanted to send several pictures of where I’m staying in the northern neighborhood called Kensington and ask - what are you up to?

It was rejuvenating to see most of you back on 6.7.8. What is everyone else up to this summer? Love from the 215 to the 319

Domain Poll, vote now.

June 20, 2008

Fellas - I wanted to run a thought by all of you. You all know I own a handful of domains. One of those domains is 319crew.com - which I currently am not using. Would you all prefer to leave this blog at keepthisgoing.com or migrate it over to 319crew.com? The chose is yours. What are your thoughts?

Much love,

2 Wheel Convert (An Ode to Tim’s Parents)

May 14, 2008

Bike Walk Week

The following are the cries of a city wanting recognition and the chronicles of a 2 wheel convert:

These past 9 months have found me in America’s second most bike friendly commuter city. Thus, I’ve been daily riding my bike 6 miles to work along the Minneapolis Midtown Greenway since the month of August. There were some frigid months, two bouts with frost bite, but many months of riding into the sun to and from work. To be the city in second place sounds pretty good in retrospect; however it’s also the first loser. Portland, that bitch of a granola eating city on the west coast is first. There are perks to being second though. For example, when you’re in second you work the hardest to become first. Thus, $21.5 million dollars was spent this past winter into the spring in efforts to make the Twin Cities the first. Two exciting updates:

There is now a bike parking garage (one of several in the world) located on the Midtown Greenway complete with bicycle parking, showers, coffee shop, bike repair and sales, and yes, bike valet parking (a little over the top perhaps). It’s a hub of sorts in efforts to create a more 2 wheel commuter city with a community of riders year round. It’s also right by the main bus station that goes into downtown so they’re also hoping to suck the suburbs dry of drivers and convert them to bikers.

Also this week in the cities has been Bike Walk Week (www.bikewalkweek.org). This morning the mayor rode his bike into downtown for a large celebration and loads of free food. Also, there were a handful of cafes and restaurants throughout Minneapolis and St. Paul which put on a free breakfast for everyone that rode their bike, walked, or ran to work. I ate breakfast with a whole slew of experienced or first time riders at the Birchwood cafe in South Minneapolis.

Although you may not live in this city I hope you’re reminded you’ve been given two legs and they can be used for more than just pedals that pivot backwards and forwards but up and down as well. Plus you can take a bike off of sweet jumps on the way to work, ride through rain puddles, and meet new people who also ride to work.

Hoof it.

678 hobo

May 1, 2008

hobo.jpg

So I’m going to be in the 319 with many of you for the 678 marriage festivus.  I’m hoping to do this on the cheap and as such I’m planning on hoboing it (hoboing- I don’t think this word has made it into the oxford english yet but it means: to act like a hobo).   I’m bringing a sleeping bag and planning on just sleeping wherever I can get to wedding activities/hang out activities.  With that being said I’m hoping to take a shower at one of your houses/parents houses.  If any of you are interested that would be super (720-985-5416 or alex@keepgreengoing.com).

KGG.com

April 4, 2008

To my dearest KGG friends,

As many, hopefully all, of you may know Bryan and I have recently launched keepgreengoing.com. Bryan has put a lot of sweat into this project, and I maybe a drop or two. We would love to see you all get behind it, please encourage those that you know to check it out, get involved, and enjoy it. Try putting something up on face book, or my space, an email to your contacts. This is a grassroots effort and for it to be sustainable we need to get more involved. I love you all thanks for the support.
