Am I cool yet?

It may seem that I disappear for months at a time, but I do check KTG at least once a day.  Sometimes it feels like I don’t have anything to share or that I don’t have a witty enough opinion of something.  But I’m here KTG….I’m here.  I never left you.

And as of recent I think I have a decent amount to talk about, but I will focus this post on one thing.  Much like Nicky T and his ipod from months and months ago, I recently became a man.  I recently became cool.  I recently purchased a MacBook.  Here is my story:

Six years ago, after saving money all summer, I purchased my first computer, a Dell.  It was pretty good for the time and plus, honestly I only used it for internet and word processing, so it didn’t need to be great.  It also meant that I could stop using Caleb’s computer (Shout out: Caleb thanks for letting me use your computer for a year).  Shortly after, Caleb’s computer sounded like an airplane taking off whenever it was turned on.  The Dell was a good computer though.  Fond memories of writing papers with gloves on because we refused to turn on the heat in our house.  Six years passed and she just wasn’t what she used to be.  I couldn’t have more than one application open, it’d take about ten minutes to boot up, and opening something or clicking back and forth between pages….forget it.  It was time to say good-bye.  It was time to say hello.

So Michael Crews and I went down to the Mac Store together (even he was excited for the purchase).  I lugged with me my old Dell tower, because Apple will transfer files from your old computer to your new one.  The tower was at least twenty pounds.  After making my purchase, people started looking at me differently, treating me differently….like I was cool.  In fact the same phenomenon that Nick experienced….but slightly different.  Truly I had grown several inches, to the height of the average man.  My hair got curlier and I became even more Jewish.

The computer itself is amazing.  Its simple design, how thin it is, the built in isight, the LED lighting, the unibody, and the trackpad…oh my gosh…the track pad.  At first one thinks, “Where the F is the button?”  But the whole f-ing thing is the button!  And there are all these sweet shortcuts with trackpad too.   Enough now…I’m starting to hyperventilate.

In short, because I’m able to travel around and use my computer wirelessly, I’m hoping to post a bit more.

Homework: Comment on your best or worst computer experience.  Pick up your pencils….and begin.

    Nice!
I am excited for your purchase as well :) I love my Mac that is now 3 years old and I am jealous of your new one :) Mine is still running great, still just as fast. I had an old iBook that was 6 years old…. I sold it to a friend and the only thing they ever had a problem with was the battery life, otherwise it still ran just as good for them as it did the first day it was ever turned on :)

also, I like your opening paragraph…. I know your feeling. I am always here KTG, I just don’t have much to post about… but I’m always reading, watching, keep this going!

    much love,
    Blake

D – Thanks for the nostalgia trip! I can hear my old computer faintly roaring in the distance…

The hard drive I’ve been using for the last year or so was taken over by viruses/spyware a couple weeks ago and fully died. Time to plan a trip to the Apple store? You make it sound so nice…

David you are so cool. Seriously. I want a mac, where was the (Steve) Jobinator with the mini update this year? I was fully prepared to buy a marked down mini right about now. As our computer at home slowly fades into the afterlife I look to Mac, my only deterrent being the giant price tag that comes along with them.

Worst computer moment: busting my first most awesome laptop shorlty after getting married to my babe wife and living on very little doe. I can still see it in slow motion crashing off of the top of one of the library’s many tall filing cabinets. RIP Compaq laptop.

  4. David – let’s do an iChat… I wanna see how curly your hair is!

Welcome to the cult David. Promptly place your apple stickers that came with your laptop in a visible place on your VW Jetta or Toyota Hybrid please.

Anyway my computer story involves, well, an apple of course.

About a year and a half ago Ashley’s sony viao or whatever it is took a crap for the final time (3rd or 4th time i can’t remember, it was wack). So anyway Ashley had a warranty and service plan through Best Buy, where she bought the computer a few years prior. So we take the computer in and find out if your computer dies 3 or more times and you still have your service plan active, they will consider it a lemon and replace your computer for another one with the same system specs. As the Sony was a few years older and technology progresses as it does, there was no computer that Best Buy could offer as a replacement for free; we would have to pay the difference for a better system. Fortunately we arrived just in time at Best Buy because only months prior had they started selling Macs. So we picked out the base level MacBook which retails for like 1000 bucks or so and we like “Eff using a lame PC ever again, Mac are the shizz! Bust it!” So anyway they tell us the difference will be like $650, so grumbling we accept, after all that is like 350 dollars off. So we take the busted Sony and the new Mac over to the Geek Squad to exchange, and get into a dialogue much like this (maybe a little fabricated):

Geek: “Whats up my peeps, don’t look so sad, your are getting a new MacPiece.”
Andy/Ashley: “We know, we are just wicked bummed to have to put this modern technical
    marvel on a credit card.”
Geek: “I hear ya Bros, but an Apple will never get any spyware, viruses etc etc…..”
A&A: “Too true, we are excited to get a new Mac after all”
Geek: “All I use is Mac’s Brobiwan Kenobi, they have siqqq features like Xmac osX, a wicked
service plan, gnarly widgets…..blah blah itunes…blah….touchpad…..blah
    blahh….awesome personalization potential…….blah…..design platform…..blah
    blah…..garage band….blah
    A&A: Cool brosif.
Geek: Alright that will be $106.43 Brosidon, Lord of the Brocean
    A&A:………………….
    Geek: Cash or credit friendskis?
    A&A: ………………….
Geek: Thanks a grip little thrashers have a badical day!
A&A:………………….lets get the hell outta here before they realize they sold us a mac for 100
    bux

And that is the story of my best day in computer world ever. Moral of the story, MacBooks will always drop wicked bows on the dome piece of PC’s, always.

  7. Hey nice post.
About Volkswagen bad quality, have you heard of the Volkswagen Phaeton? Did you know it’s just a rebadged Bentley Continental GT? Sad, but true.
The Volkswagen Phaeton was a absolute failure in my opinion, the worst vehicle made by Volkswagen!

Its Official: Volkswagen Phaeton is a fail!
