Almost enough time has passed to discuss this without it being entirely about death and suicide and tragedy and loss. At least, it’s a little easier to read his work again.
Michael Pollan, author of such books as “In Defense of Food” and “The Omnivores Dilemma” also wrote an open letter to Obama. Check it out, I am a big fan of Pollan.
Have you guys seen this at all, its an open letter from Jello Biafra (lead singer of Dead Kennedys) to president elect Barack Obama. Its really long so if you have some time check it out. I would love to hear your thoughts. I agree with some of what he has to say, some not so much. The issues he addresses are all issues that I think as Americans we should be concerned with consider the pros and cons of each.
Here’s one I put on every day. The whole thing plays like a lazy, sweet new classic — an album that comes worn-in. And there’s the drummer from the Strokes…
But it’s the girl who just lays me out, right down to her name. Binki Shapiro? No, they don’t make ‘em like this much anymore.
“If you study the Bible and it doesn’t lead you to wonder and awe, then you haven’t studied the Bible.”
I read this statement in a book today and it stuck me throughout the day. How true this statement is. I don’t care where you’re at with your faith or what you believe – the content in the Bible MUST lead you to wonder about truth, God, love, hate, Jesus and life. And when I think about that, I must say, it really makes me want to read the Bible more…. I’m a dreamer and I like to be in wonder and awe.

The folks at SeriousEats got it right, which is why I’m stealing their Milk Bar photos. I had the Volcano tonight, and it’s like the best potato-bacon soup-in-a-bread-bowl you’ve never had…made portable.
Good news for me, since I ate it while stumbling to Union Square Station. Next up…the English Muffin?
Egg, poached and fried. Onions. Lardons. Yes.
I realize this is NYC-specific, and a little hoity-toity because of it but this is perhaps a long-winded way of saying: let’s all have a Sausage Egg McMuffin tomorrow. I know I will…it’s been far too long and McDonald’s is, like, 2 blocks away.
Tomorrow, 12/10 is my b-day. Dodgeball, 7pm, at jump street. Jumpstreet is the denver equivalent of the FSU house in Cedar Falls except it is way bigger and you replace the mattresses with trampolines, even the ones ON THE WALL! www.jump-street.com the website is weak, but it is dodgeball on trampolines in a giant warehouse. I think it is like 12 bux a person to start.
“Jump-Street is located at 8225 North Valley Hwy. Thorton, CO 80221 The southwest corner of 84th and of I-25, exit 219 (Waterworld exit) right behind Village Inn. You can not miss the large yellow building, from I-25,with our sign and street painting across it.” -taken from their website
Call me if you wanna come, we can ride together meet at my house 6:15 or so.
Also, if you cannot attend, check out my hero for the last few years. www.processrecess.com ,that makes up for it…. sorta.
I saw this film yesterday morning with Josh and Kari at the closest indie theater to my apartment down on Clark street. The theater was pretty full, especially considering it was an 11:15 a.m. showing.
MILK came out here last week but doesn’t actually come out nation-wide until the 12th. Most of you guys live in larger cities now so it shouldn’t be a problem seeing it (not too sure if it will come to Cedar Falls).
After the credits rolled and we all filed out of the theater in silence, Josh and I discussed the movie a little. “Powerful” was one of the words we tried using to describe what we had just seen. I felt/feel that this is the kind of film I always want to see but rarely do.
So much is right about this movie that I’m not going to go into all of the little things I liked. It makes me sad to know the reaction by certain people, certain religious groups and how these people in most cases won’t even have seen the film before they write it off.
This film is very effective at bringing out a whole plethora of emotions, a very wide spectrum of them. There is a lot of laughter to be had during the film but by the end you will most likely be crying.
The story is extremely sad but not in the same way that a movie like Crash is where you leave the movie thinking…”welp…I feel like shit and all people are horrible.” But a sad that makes you feel inspired and makes you want to change and look at yourself to figure out how you can be a better person.
Do yourself a favor and please go see this, in the theaters.
